An National Colour Scheme and Iconic Emblem

The updated branding incorporates a patriotic palette to echo the national flag and will be rolled out on rolling stock, at stations, and across its website and app.

Significantly, the logo is the distinctive twin-arrow design currently used by the national rail network and originally introduced in the 1960s for the former state operator.

The Introduction Strategy

The implementation of the design, which was designed internally, is scheduled to take place in phases.

Travellers are expected to start seeing the newly-branded trains throughout the national network from the coming spring.

During December, the design will be displayed at major railway stations, such as Glasgow Central.

The Path to Nationalisation

The legislation, which will allow the establishment of GBR, is presently making its way through the House of Commons.

The administration has argued it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the system is "run by the passengers, delivering for the passengers, not for profit."

Great British Railways will unify the running of train services and tracks and signals under a single organisation.

The department has said it will combine 17 different entities and "eliminate the frustrating administrative hurdles and lack of accountability that has long affected the railways."

Digital Services and Current Public Control

The launch of GBR will also include a new mobile application, which will allow users to check train times and book tickets without additional fees.

Accessibility passengers will also be have the option to use the application to arrange help.

A number of franchises had already been nationalised under the outgoing administration, such as Southeastern.

There are currently 7 train operators already in public hands, representing about a third of rail travel.

In the last twelve months, South Western Railway have been nationalised, with further franchises anticipated to follow in the coming years.

Ministerial and Sector Reaction

"The new design is not simply a cosmetic change," said the relevant minister. It symbolises "a fresh start, shedding the frustrations of the past and concentrated entirely on offering a genuine public service."

Rail representatives have acknowledged the pledge to improving services.

"The industry will carry on to collaborate with relevant bodies to facilitate a seamless transition to GBR," one executive said.
