An IT issue at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no planes could enter or leave the hub.

Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a major ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All aircraft movements were suspended because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest information on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their journey before traveling to the airport as knock-on effects are worked through.
