Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
