Miami scored eighty-six opening half points against the Memphis Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a crushing 146-114 win over the Grizzlies in their first NBA game since player Terry Rozier was arrested over suspected unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also arrested as part of a sweeping FBI investigation into sports betting. Both men deny the claims.

However, the Heat were focused as they put up eighty-six first-half scores to lead the Grizzlies by thirty-nine after two quarters, the largest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year history.

Adebayo led the way with 24 points and afterwards stated Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Complete backing," Adebayo said. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."

Miami head coach Spoelstra added: "Terry is a person who is very dear to all of us. He's had a real positive impact on our team.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces this."

Portland additionally won their first game since the detentions, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Chauncey's absence and leading the squad to a convincing 139 to 119 victory against the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Billups and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his family but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, league head Silver stated he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and its fans than the integrity of the game," he told Amazon Prime. "Therefore I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner further mentioned an league probe into Rozier's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a match he participated for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he added.

"We investigated the matter and were very transparent about it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"So, we've been working with them since then. Naturally, what they announced recently was an charge.

"Moreover 30 months after, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
