Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
