PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
