Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the team's 10-match winless start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are among the options to be considered by the club ownership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is out of work meaning Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
