A extended voyage circling the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the personnel realised the woman was not present.

A major rescue mission located her person the subsequent day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, together with police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Master" preventing any further travelers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its return.

The vessel initially left the Australian port on October 24th, and was just two days into the expedition at the moment of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the opening port on the itinerary.

Guests on board - who typically pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of hiking or underwater exploration.

Family Response

The daughter of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "stunned and saddened that the ship left the island after an scheduled outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking organization.

"According to scant details we have been told, it appears that there was a failure of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She added that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have done that might have protected Mother's existence".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum fell ill on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"They requested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the boat departed, apparently without conducting a headcount.

"During some point in that sequence, or not long after, she passed away, by herself."

Company Response

In a statement, the Head verified that the company was "working closely with officials to assist their inquiry".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had extended its total backing to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Practices

The vessel caters for up to a hundred twenty passengers with nearly fifty personnel, according to official information. It was specifically designed to access isolated locations of Australia's coast and is fitted with "tenders" - compact vessels used to transport travelers on land visits.

Events like this are infrequent, and passenger vessels have procedures to track which individuals are getting on or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] onboard just isn't an option," one expert remarked.

Shipping companies regard these processes extremely carefully and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such incidents from occurring," the specialist added.

"This is most likely a surprising - and tragic - isolated incident."
